Den 15-16 oktober organiserar jag en återkommande workshop om Environmental Posthumanities i Norrköping. Det kommer bland annat två duktiga och välrenommerade forskare dit som kanske vore värdefulla att också bjuda in till GFK om det finns intresse, tid och möjlighet? Det skulle vara aktuellt på tisdag eftermiddag14/9 eller fredag förmiddag 17/9 tänker jag mig.

För det första: jag har nu fått fatt i titel och abstract för Myra Hirds GKF-seminarium den sextonde september (se nedan). Seminariet kommer att utgå från en muntlig presentation eftersom pappret är under review. Texten nedan kan med fördel användas för marknadsföring av seminariet!

För det andra: titeln till mitt och Stefan Anderbergs seminarium den andra december är: Where is the city in urban mining research? The development of a "trendy" concept.

Title: 'The Arctic Wastes'
Abstract:
In the Eastern Canadian Arctic city of Iqaluit, a three-story pile of waste rests atop a peninsula that extends well into Nunavut's Frobisher Bay. The dump - which has been burning steadily for over two months, is one of several waste sites in Nunavut's only official city. It joins an unknown number of waste sites that the US and Canadian military, oil, gas, and minerals industries have left abandoned on and in the landscape. In this presentation, I examine waste within the wider context of colonialism as well as contemporary neoliberal governance practices to argue that waste itself is part of a colonial context within which Inuit and other Aboriginal peoples in northern Canada continue to live. Waste is a provocative material concept with which to think about neo-coloniality, and in the context of the Anthropocene takes on a distinct hue. Whether in the form of mining, nuclear, industrial, hazardous, sewage or municipal, and whether it is dumped, landfilled, incinerated or buried deep underground, waste constitutes perhaps the most abundant and enduring trace of the human for epochs to come. In this presentation, I take up the challenge posed by Dipesh Chakrabarty (2012) to conceptualize the neo-colonial subject within the context of the Anthropocence. The Anthropocene, Chakrabarty argues, re-characterizes the neo-colonial subject as both the colonized and - as a geological force - the re-indigenized. And while the Anthropocene speaks of a globalized human race to whom past and present generations project responsibility and reparation, I emphasize that the effects of this waste landscape - neo-colonialism's dividend - is differentially experienced by neo-colonial subjects such as Inuit peoples in Canada's North.

hej alla,

det har trasslat till sig med tiden för denna planering för min del, och jag måste avvika redan kl 13. Därför föreslår jag att de som vill och kan samlas på samma plats (Forum) för gemensam lunch och lite inledande funderingar kring höstens program.
