For this special issue on 'Transhumanist Education, Politics, and Design', we welcome contributions from scholars with various disciplinary backgrounds to debate transhumanistic issues in relation to education, politics, and design.

In the soon to come future, technological revolutions are likely to change future societies, bodies and minds in more far-reaching ways than ever before history.

Transhumanism can be described as 'a new paradigm for thinking about humankind’s future' (World Transhumanist Association). Transhumanism is a philosophy, a cultural movement and a growing field of study. More specifically, transhumanism is the belief in morphological freedom and the aspiration to enhance human abilities and attributes and thereby transcend human biological limits.

This special issue of Confero encourages contributions that approach and analyse transhumanism transhumanism in relation to education, politics, and design. Topics suitable for this special issue could include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Transhumanism, corporeality and (un)learning
- Transhumanism and disease(s)
- Transhumanism and monstrosity
- Transhumanism and citizenship
- Transhumanism and surveillance
- Transhumanism and cognitive science
- Transhumanism and values (social, economical, ethical, juridical, environmental, moral, instrumental, utilitarian, hedonic etc.)
- Transhumanism and intersectionality (e.g. race, sexuality, gender, ethnicity, able-bodied, crip)
- Human enhancement, prosthesis and extension
- Morphological freedom
- Educating the transhuman
- Queering transhumanism
- Transhumanism and speed
- Transhumanist design
- Definitions, practices and consequences of transhumanism (e.g. bio-hacking and DIY citizenship)
- A battle for/of the anthropocene? Posthumanism vs. transhumanism
- Transhumanism as subversive power

Notes for Contributors

We encourage authors to use the Oxford referencing system. To give the essay form and improve its readability, we ask that the essay has a clearly defined topic or theme that is laid out in the introduction of the piece. We also encourage the writer to divide the text into sections, using headings to promote its readability. Authors are encouraged to refrain from selfreferences. The text should be proofread before submission. The journal applies double-blind peer review. Authors will also be invited to review papers for this special issue. Guest editors for this special issue are Mattias Arvola (Linköping University), Lina Rahm (Linköping University), and Jörgen Skågeby (Stockholm university).

The editorial group can be reached at confero at liu.se. A first full draft of the essay should be sent to confero at liu.se on or before 1 April 2016. The subject line of the submission should read “Submission for SI on transhumanism”.

Confero: Essays on Education, Philosophy & Politics
Confero is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal focusing on issues related to education and social criticism. The journal provides a space for essayistic writing and especially encourages discussions of philosophical and political nature.

We are now inviting submissions of essays that deal with issues related to the broad scope of the journal, i.e. education and criticism.

The journal welcomes a broad range of empirical sources to explore the issue or phenomenon at hand: unconventional sources such as art works, literature, movies as well as conventional empirical material like interviews, statistics and ethnographies.

Confero publishes essays related to education written from various academic traditions, for example anthropology, literature, history, social psychology and sociology.

Confero is an open access journal, available for free to people engaged in social science research as well as a wider intellectual public. All the submission that potentially will possess the high quality required for publication, will go through a rigorous double blind peer-review process. 

This open call for papers warmly welcomes contributions at any time.

"Essays on school bullying: Theoretical perspectives on a contemporary problem"
Confero: Essays on Education, Philosophy and Politics

This proposed special issue addresses the issue of school bullying from different theoretical perspectives, by inviting school bullying researchers from a range of theoretical and geographical	areas to engage in a theoretical discussion about a contemporary problem that has until now been relatively under-theorised. School bullying research has traditionally been dominated by aggression researchers, who have tended to focus on the individuals involved in bullying at the expense of the societal, institutional, and social contexts within which it occurs. However, more recently there has been a paradigmatic shift away from a focus on aggressive individuals towards a more complex consideration of the societal, institutional and social aspects of bullying. This special issue seeks to bring together a broad range of perspectives from this second paradigm to	reflect the increasing diversity in thinking about bullying and to encourage further crossdisciplinary	dialogue.

Authors are encouraged to pen theoretical essays explaining how they understand bullying and tor eflect on how their theorising relates to various forms of bullying -- including racial bullying, gendered bullying, sexual bullying, homophobic bullying, class-based bullying, the bullying of disabled students, and cyberbullying -- and the implications such an understanding has for how	we approach this contemporary problem.

Notes for Contributors

Confero: Essays on Education, Philosophy and Politics is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal on issues related to education and social criticism. The journal provides a space for essayistic writing, and particularly welcomes philosophical and political contributions. The journal has a	wide readership, is open access, and authors retain copyright of their work. The submission	language for the special issue is English and there is no specific word limit.

This special issue of Confero will be guest edited by two school bullying researchers, Paul Horton (Department of Thematic Studies, Linköping University) and Camilla Forsberg (Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning, Linköping University). Horton and Forsberg represent different theoretical perspectives and geographical research areas (Sweden and Vietnam	respectively), and are therefore well-positioned to frame the essays in an interdisciplinary and	international introductory discussion.

Authors should submit an abstract (max. 200 words) to confero at liu.se by July 1, 2014.
If accepted, authors will be asked to submit a full paper for peer review by December 1, 2014.
