The REMESO newsletter will be circulated periodically every semester, with information on the Institute's activities and courses at the Graduate School. 

REMESO is an Institute within Linköping University, Sweden, located to Campus Norrköping. REMESO is a "Centre of Excellence" financed by FAS - The Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research -, Linköping University, Norrköping Municipality as well as other Research Councils and agencies. 




SASKIA SASSEN, WALDEN BELLO TO CONFERENCE ON 'LABOUR RIGHTS AS HUMAN RIGHTS?' IN NORRKÖPINGLABOUR RIGHTS AS HUMAN RIGHTS? CONFERENCE IN NORRKÖPING, SWEDEN, MAY 30-JUNE 1, 2012 (2012-05-11)
On May 30 a number of internationally well known researcher-activists come to Norrköping for the conference 'Labour Rights as Human Rights? - Labour Market Restructuring and the Role of Civil Society in Global Governance', organised by REMESO and INMD (International Network for Migration and Development), under the auspices of UNESCO-MOST. Keynote lectures are given by Saskia Sassen, Walden Bello, Guy Standing, Stephen Castles and Raul Delgado Wise.

GUEST SEMINAR: IMPROVING THE WORLD? ON SWEDISH DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE (2012-05-11)
On May 16, Mattias Tydén, historian of migration and racism and associate professor in history at Linköping University, ISAK, will discuss his new research project "Improving the world? Swedish development assistance from the 1940s to the 1970s".

REMESO GUEST SEMINAR WITH NIRA YUVAL-DAVIS ON MAY 15 (2012-05-11)
Nira-Yuval Davis is Professor in Gender and Ethnic Studies at the University of East London and guest professor at Umeå University's Centre for Gender Studies. On May 15 she visits REMESO to discuss her most recent book, 'The Politics of Belonging'.

SYMPOSIUM ON POLITICS AND REASON WITH RICHARD WOLIN, NEW YORK (2012-05-09)
On May 29 a symposium is organised with the intellectual historian and philosopher Richard Wolin from CUNY New York. The theme is "Politics and Reason". A panel with swedish researchers and critics will comments and discuss Wolins intervention.

TRANSNATIONAL MOTHERS (2012-05-02)
Transnational mothers take care of a family in the host country and their own from a distance in their country of origin. They are the fastest growing group of migrants. Helma Lutz, visiting researcher at Linköping University, is studying "the care drain", how caring and domestic work is increasingly contracted out to women from poor countries.

CONFERENCE ON ETHNIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN NORRKÖPING (2012-05-09)
In April the Herbert Felix Entrepreneurship Forum held their annual Conference at REMESO, Campus Norrköping. The conference focused on ethnic entrepreneurship.

NEW EDITION OF THE POLITICS OF EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP (2012-05-07)
The Politics of European Citizenship - Deepening Contradictions in Social Right and Migration by Peo Hansen och Sandy Hager, came 2010 on Berghahn Books. Now a new paper back edition is out with a new afterword, reflecting current events.

In April REMESO is visited by Judy Fudge, Professor Faculty of Law University of Victoria, Canada. Specialist in labour law, migrant worker and feminist political economy.

PRECARIOUS EMPLOYMENTS, THEME FOR NEW BOOK (2012-04-18)
Precarious employment has become increasingly important when exploring challenges to working conditions in various contexts. In a new book edited by Annette Thörnquist and Åsa-Karin Engstrand the emergence of precariousness in Sweden is explored.
