Findings and pitfalls in cross-cultural research on predictors of student achievement

Abstract:
International large-scale assessments of student achievement are a remarkable data source for research in the sociology and psychology of education. In this talk I will share several insights I have gained from several years experience of working with these data to examine how achievement, in various academic subjects and among students in different age groups, depends on gender and socioeconomic factors in interaction with society-level factors.
