Dear colleagues
It is time to reimagine Humanities together!
LiU Humanities, the platform for collaboration and information exchange supported by the Faculty for Art and Sciences (FILFAK) invites you to reimagine Humanities by sharing and developing your ideas on the nature, role and meaning of the Humanities in the university and in the society at large. Instead of defending or justifying the humanities it is needed to redefine them to answer the current global entangled challenges - enviro-climatic, techno-social, geopolitical, onto-epistemic, and biomedical. Contemporary Humanities are then striving to answer the question of what it means to be human today and how humans may reimagine and relaunch our relations with the world, including other humans, other species, and objects.
First, on January 16 we organize the minisymposium Thinkering, Worlding, Refuturing: discussing artistic research with artists Saodat Ismailova, Misho Antadze, Liina Siib and Madina Tlostanova. Please see attached invitation.
Second, we invite you to save the date 24 APRIL 13-16 for LiU Humanities day I 2024. In collaboration with HUMTank we will discuss research communication.
Third, we are looking for LiU researchers at all levels and from all research areas related to a broadly understood Humanities that are interested in joining the refurbished LiU Humanities steering committee to come up with the possible activities, events, courses and tools for Humanities research support that LiU can plan in the future.
Fourth, we invite you to a seminar series starting in March to reflect together on the role and place of the Humanities in the contemporary world, in research and in higher education. The first seminar takes place March 11 at 13-16, Campus Norrköping. We will read a key text and plan future seminars together.
Please indicate your interest and availability for the steering group and/or the seminar by January 22, 2024 by notifying Bodil Axelsson or Madina Tlostanova.
Finally, we invite you subscribe to and use the LiU Humanities e-mail list. The list allows for advertising seminars, workshops and symposia across departmental borders at LiU. You can distribute seminar programs for the whole semester or spotlight upcoming seminars with short notice. There is an interest in knowing what’s going on in other places and this list allows us to circumscribe the obstacles for fast and relevant communication set up by the official communication strategy at LiU. To subscribe to the list, visit this webpage. https://lists.liu.se/mailman/listinfo/liuhum . Subscribers can the post a message to all the list members by sending an email to liuhum at lists.liu.se<mailto:liuhum at lists.liu.se> .
Please feel free to circulate this email to colleagues.
Thank you very much and looking forward to reimagining Humanities together!
