At this week's MIT seminar we have a guest speaker from Finland: Oğuz 'Oz' Buruk.

Oz is a Marie Curie Fellow and postdoc researcher in the Gamification Group at Tampere University where he investigates playful design with novel modalities especially focusing on wearables and extended reality.

Title: Designing Wearables for Fostering Playful Experiences

Abstract: Deployment of wearables for games has attracted the interest of designers and researchers both in academia and industry. However, few of these projects treat wearables as an integral part of the gameplay, often considering them as an extension of the central on-screen experience. While preliminary forays into wearable play show promise, we still see a need for the production of comprehensive design knowledge on the topic. Related to this, in this talk, I will introduce a design framework for playful wearables and discuss different forms of utilizing it during the design process. We, then, will discuss the framework with audience to ideate on the ways in which this design framework might also be useful beyond games and playful applications.
