Välkommen på KU-seminarium med Camilla Groth den 15 november kl. 13.15-16.15, Metodik 1&2 (2314) Key-huset. Seminariet kommer att hållas på engelska.


Camilla Groth "Materiality and Embodied Cognition"

Is it possible to think through hands? What does interaction between person and material entail, on a practical, philosophical and psychological level? In this seminar, we will discuss these dimensions of making and experiencing, with a special focus on materiality. The lecture is based on Groth's doctoral dissertation; Making sense through hands: Design and craft practice analysed as embodied cognition. In her research, Groth has utilised ethnographic and practice-led auto ethnographic methods. She has also developed new methods for research on experiential knowledge combining artistic methods with contextual activity sampling.

Camilla Groth is an artist, researcher and teacher with a traditional training in ceramic crafts. Her main research interests lie in haptic experiences and embodied cognition in design and craft practice, with a focus on materiality and material interaction. She lives and works in Helsinki, where she is a teacher at Aalto University, Department of Design. Currently she is a visiting post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Visual and Performing Arts Education at the University College of Southeast Norway. The seminar will be held in English.
